This season sees the appointment of Liam Wiggins as the clubs new captain. Liam has come off the back of an outstanding season and the coaches feel now is the right time for him to step up in responsibility among the playing group.
He replaces Nathan Hughes (Scooby) who has led the club through the most successful period in the clubs history. Scooby has been an immense captain always leading by example Tuesday's, Thursday's and Saturday's, always leading through the standards he sets on and off the field.
On being named captain, Liam said " I am grateful for the opportunity to captain Ystrad after playing for them from u10s. I am excited to see the young talent we have in the squad mixed in with some senior players. I feel we are going to have a good season. I can assure everyone we will give 100% in training and games to make the club as successful as possible."
On the change of captain, coach Dylan Jones said "Scooby was the obvious candidate when he took over in 2017 and what a job he's done! He's a one off character. Liam coming in as captain this season allows Scoob to concentrate on himself and enjoy the latter years of his career while continuing to lead and mentor Liam. Liam has stepped up in leadership in recent seasons and he's a great appointment to lead his club going forward. He's a passionate player and when he leads others will follow".
